MISA ZAMBIA CALLS FOR THE INCLUSION OF THE MEDIA UNDER THE WHISTLE BLOWERS BILL
The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA Zambia) has submitted that the media should be specifically mentioned as a recipient of the Whistleblower information and should be protected for publishing that information, as long as they pass on all the relevant documents to investigative agencies, if required to do so in public interest.

MISA ZAMBIA WARNS GOVERNMENT AGAINST RETROGRESSIVE AMENDMENTS AND REPEALS TO THE ZNBC ACT OF 2002
The Media Institute of Southern Africa ( MISA Zambia Chapter) has told a Parliamentary committee on Information and Broadcasting Services that the operationalisation of the ZNBC (Amendment) Act, 2002 is long over due and that moving amendments and repeals that expurgate progressive provisions will be a huge setback in the quest to create a true public broadcaster.

The Africa Freedom of Information Centre (AFIC) and the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) deeply regret the decision of the National Constitutional Conference of Zambia (hereinafter referred to as the NCC), established pursuant to Act No. 19, 2007 and vested with the responsibility of producing Zambia’s first ever peoples driven constitution, to delete the right to information clause in the draft constitution of the republic of Zambia.

Opposition political party threatens to sue National Broadcaster
On 3 May 2010, an opposition political party, the Patriotic Front threatened to sue Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) if it failed to meet its demand for the national broadcaster to provide fair and equal coverage to it and other political parties that are registered in the country.

Media Liaison Committee postpone ZAMEC launch
The Media Liaison Committee (MLC) has postponed the launch of the recently created Zambia Media Council (ZAMEC) on 3 May 2010 as earlier planned.

Government recommends statutory self regulation of the media
The Zambian government has said that the proposed framework in the Fringilla Consensus falls short of a genuine self regulatory framework and would not be able to achieve effective self regulation of the media in the country.

MISA Zambia clears air on the allegations of K70 million fraud
The MISA Zambia National Governing Council (NGC) which met on 12 February 2010, wishes to inform the nation that investigations carried out by both the MISA Zambia Secretariat and the NGC show no evidence of there having been fraudulent dealings or fraud involving K70 million, as alleged in the media recently.
