Annual MISA Zambia Media Freedom Awards - December, 2008
These awards recognise various media individuals and institutions that have made great effort to promote and defend access to information by the Zambian public through use of the media. The awards are open to any Zambian and not only the media. The awards are incorporated with the United States Embassy HIV/AIDS awards which seek to encourage HIV/AIDS reporting with an objective of encouraging information flow on HIV/AIDS to the Zambian people. The main sponsors of the MISA Zambia awards last year were Zambian Breweries, who supported three categories while Multichoice Zambia sponsored two new categories in photojournalism. Other sponsors were Zambia State Insurance Corportation, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC), Sterkinekor, Protea Hotel and Holiday Inn

MISA will be launching the John Manyarara Awards on 22, May, 2008 in Lusaka. The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) recognises the importance of investigative journalism as a field of journalism which is essential to the consolidation of democracy in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
