MISA Zambia is calling for entries in the following categories of the 2009 media awards

MISA Zambia is calling for entries to the following categories of the media awards:

• MISA Zambia Media Freedom award
• MISA Zambia Best Coverage award
• Photojournalism award
• Telecommunications award
• Water and sanitation award
• And Orphans and vulnerable children media award

Kindly take note that MISA Zambia will award every category according to the following guidelines:
1 Content refers to facts, their accuracy, context and background, attribution and multi-sourcing of information;
2 Language and style is the linguistic organisation, coherence and ability to simplify jargon so that readers, viewers and listeners easily understand;
3 Originality and creativity refers to evidence that shows the extent to which the entry is generated either as a result of routine work and efforts made to improve upon this or as a result of individual initiative and effort;
4 Quality of sound and picture refers to the degree of accuracy with which the producer of a radio or television programme was able to capture the original emitted sound waves or environment in which the picture, either motion or still, was captured using various devices.

MISA Zambia Media Freedom Award
The MISA Zambia Media Freedom award is in recognition of the work of individuals or institutions where they are considered to have made a significant contribution to the promotion of media freedom in Zambia. The excellence which the award acknowledges can be achieved either through reportage, or in other ways such as media law reform, lobbying or media training.


MISA Zambia Best Coverage Award
The MISA Zambia Best coverage awards recognise coverage by the media or journalists that have excelled in providing timely, vital and well presented information to the public. The coverage could cover areas of development, democracy and good governance among others.


Best Telecommunications coverage award
The Best Telecommunications Reporting award is meant to recognize reporting that highlights the benefits of telecommunication in Zambia, seeks to promote access to telecommunication through addressing issues of policy, laws and the economic environment in Zambia

Water and Sanitation media award
Best Water and Sanitation award is in recognition of reportage that addresses access to safe drinking water, investment in sanitation, provision of hygienic facilities and the environmental impact on access to safe drinking water in Zambia.
Best Photojournalism Award
MISA Zambia Best Photojournalism award will recognize work that tells a story with minimal words. Photojournalism can be defined as a form of journalism that includes collecting, editing, and presenting of news material for publication or broadcast. The picture must be timely, objective and outstanding.

MISA Zambia Best telecommunications reporting award K 2million
Best reporting Water and sanitation K 2 million

The entries to these awards will be judged by an independent body of judges drawn from well-seasoned media personnel in Zambia who have held high positions in their journalism career.

Eligibility
The Media Awards are open to both private and public media of all forms e.g. photography, print, video, audio or media associations and institutions. Eligible individuals or institutions should be Zambian.

Please send your nominations accompanied by a motivation letter of not more than 300 words stating why you or the nominee of your choice should be awarded the MISA Zambia Media Awards. Where applicable, a copy of the work, or a portfolio of work should be included with the nomination. Entries must have been published in Zambia between January 1 November 13 2009.

Submission
Nominations should be submitted to the 2009 MISA Zambia Media Awards Committee, c/o MISA Zambia, P.O. Box 32295, Lusaka or delivered to the MISA Zambia Secretariat on Plot 3814 Martin Mwamba Road, Olympia Park, Lusaka. Or emailed to jane@misazambia.org.zm. The Deadline is 13 November, 2009.
